It is with great sadness and regret that as of October 2011, the WACtheatre team have decided to cease all future productions, including WAC Wednesdays and other workshops. As with many small companies, the funding difficulties threw up too many obstacles and we were finally forcced to call it a day. Here's a brief run-down of WACtheatre's work...
Aberdeen-based WACtheatre were an organisation set up specifically to produce new work and to create opportunities for writers and actors in North East Scotland, particularly around Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire. WAC's regular meetings (WAC Wednesdays) brought together playwrights and actors based in Aberdeen and the Shire to read new plays and discuss how they could be developed.
The WACtheatre team facilitated workshops on drama, writing and devising, as well as playing host to visiting writers and directors (such as Nicola McCartney and Tanika Gupta).
Between November 2008 and March 2011, WACtheatre produced 20 new plays and offered opportunities to writers to have their work read, developed, rehearsed and performed.
WAC worked with oil & gas company Britannia Operator Ltd, as part of that company’s training programme.
Our core team of Development Workers, Colin, Jessica, Louise and Angela, are still available as facilitators, performers and writers, devising and creating scripts for role-plays, workplace scenarios, forum theatre exercises, performances and sketches. Please DO NOT send unsolicited scripts to WACtheatre - we are no longer able to read work as a company. However, our Guidelines are still available and may be useful when submitting work to other theatre companies.
